Denso Golf Day 2023

The first UK Denso Golf Day was held at Silvermere Golf & Leisure in Cobham, Surrey on Thursday 27th June. The day provided colleagues, customers, and friends of Winn & Coales (Denso) Ltd the opportunity to play 18 holes and network with fellow professionals from across the industry.

The day started at 8:30am with tea, coffee, and bacon rolls before a quick warm up and the first of the eight 4-man teams teeing off down the first at 9:30am. They were closely followed by the other teams in 9-minute intervals.

Thankfully the rain stopped, and the sun didn’t take long to come out as everyone made their way around the 18 holes of the beautiful course. On the 5th hole we had the ‘Longest Drive’ competition – where each player would attempt to hit the ball the furthest, whilst keeping the ball on the fairway – and on the 12th we held the ‘Closest to the Pin’ contest on a short par 3.

The 17th and 18th holes posed the greatest challenge of the course however as players took on the Silvermere Lake, with a daring shot over the water onto the island green at the 18th to finish the course. One by one the teams made their way back to the clubhouse for a BBQ and the prize giving having had a truly enjoyable round.

Kerry Root of Jewson Civils Frazer won the Longest Drive and Chris Shepperd of the Wolseley team won the Closest to the Pin challenge. Each were presented with their prize: distance balls for Kerry and a golf towel for Chris.

Finally, it was time to present the winning team with The Denso Cup, but who would be the first to take home this newly founded trophy?

The winners were the Jewson Civils Frazer team, who displayed some fantastic golf and hit a great score. They will have their name engraved on the trophy and will hold on to it until the next event where they will have the chance to defend their title.

None of the players walked away empty-handed though, with everyone receiving a goody bag of Denso-branded gifts, including golf balls and caps.

The entire day was very much enjoyed by all who attended, with a perfect balance of business and pleasure that will no doubt become an event to look forward to in everyone’s calendar.

Thank you to all who attended and made it a success; to Silvermere Golf & Leisure, for hosting the day; and to everyone who donated to the Heart of Kent Hospice, our associated charity for the event.
