DENSOCLAD PROTECTION IN NORTHWICH BRINEFIELD

Murphy Pipelines Ltd (part of the John Murphy Group) are carrying out Phase 3 of a new development project for Ineos Enterprises Ltd at the Holford Brinefield, Northwich, Cheshire.

Winn & Coales' Densoclad wrapping Tape system has been chosen to give protection in this corrosive environment to flange joints for air mains and well heads on 1500m of 2 inch pipework.

Winn & Coales' Densoclad Tape consists of a thick polymer bitumen adhesive laminated to a tough plasticised PVC backing. These cold applied tapes are designed for protecting buried or immersed pipes and fittings and giving long-life protection. For more information on Densoclad Tape click here

DENSO PROTECTION FOR WEST WALES BRIDGE

Pembrokeshire County Council's Bridge Engineers carry out annual inspections of the thirty-year-old Cleddau Bridge on the A477 from Pembroke to Milford Haven.

A key feature of the inspection programme and subsequent maintenance work entails application of Winn & Coales' Denso Paste to the whole of the bridge's 64 Macalloy bar assemblies. Denso Paste was chosen because of its good track record in corrosion prevention of engineering, particularly in marine and sem-marine environments, by presenting a barrier to the ingress of moisture, road salts and atmospheric oxygen.

Denso paste is a high melting point petrolatum in aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, supplied in a semi-solid state suitable for brush application or hand application. For more information on Denso Paste click here

DENSO TIE ROD PROTECTION FOR BELFAST AND SAN FRANCISCO

DENSO TIE ROD PROTECTION FOR BELFAST AND SAN FRANCISCO

The engineering company Macalloy Ltd of Sheffield is one of the largest regular users of Winn & Coales’ Denso Tape in the North of England. An on-going major contract being carried out by the company is the protective wrapping of M76, M90 and M105 tie bars being used in the construction of Terminal 4 at Belfast Harbour by main contractors McCoughlin and Hannan. Piling contractors at Belfast are Pierce Contracting.

Following application of the Denso Tape, Macalloy then applies Denso PVC self-adhesive overwrapping tape to give extra anti-corrosion protection and resistance to mechanical abrasion while in transit to site.

Macalloy also has an interesting export contract which involves application of Denso Tape to post-tension bars which are going to be used for San Francisco ’s Oakland Bay Bridge . A local Californian contractor will apply the final Denso PVC Tape, which will be supplied by Denso North America Inc from it facility in Houston , Texas .

Denso Tape is a non-woven synthetic fibre fabric impregnated and coated with an adhesive compound based on petrolatum. For more information on Denso Tape click here

TOKSTRIP SEALANT CHOSEN FOR SCUNTHORPE STORM WATER SYSTEM

TOKSTRIP SEALANT CHOSEN FOR SCUNTHORPE STORM WATER SYSTEMS

North Midland Construction are the main contractors for Severn Trent Water’s replacement combined storm overflow at Lakeside , Scunthorpe . It is part of the Ashby South Grange UID project, designed to improve local river water quality.

The storage unit at the overflow is being constructed from Hanson Culverts’ precast concrete box culverts with Winn & Coales (Denso) Ltd’s Tokstrip being specified by Hanson as the sealant. It is being built by sub-contractors Wilmat (who are also applying the Tokstrip sealant) in the form of an 80m line of twin 2.1m x 2.7m culvert sections and a smaller single 50m section.

Tokstrip has gained an enviable 47-year track record of use within the construction industry. Under compression it deforms through the joints to provide a flexible, watertight seal. When used in conjunction with Tokstrip Primer, Tokstrip meets the European Standard BS EN 1919 for concrete manholes and inspection chambers. To ensure its lead in the market place, Winn & Coales regularly upgrade the product. Only one grade of Tokstrip is now required for all year round use. It is more user-friendly and easier to handle. The standard Tokstrip primer is now faster drying and a clear primer is available for areas where appearance is important.

Winn & Coales (Denso) Ltd 1883 - 2008 celebrating serving 125 years service to industryWinn & Coales International Ltd - Celebrating 125 Years Service to Industry in 2008

We are extremely proud to announce that Winn & Coales International Ltd remain an independent company and are celebrating ‘125 years Service to Industry’ in 2008.

To commemorate the occasion the company have produced a special historical 2008 calendar and will be holding several conferences and gala dinners during the year, inviting key staff and customers from around the world to attend.

The company, founded in London by Paul Winn in 1883, began its life by importing and exporting commodities such as starch, sugar and coke but started to specialise in anti-corrosion and sealing waxes at the turn of the century. Petrolatum tapes and mastics were introduced in 1929.

During the following years the company expanded rapidly, increasing and selling their product range not only in the UK but globally and setting up subsidiaries in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. With the additional support of a substantial network of dedicated agents around world, the products were made available, virtually anywhere.

Notable events are as follows. In 1946 when Paul Winn died, Frank Coales was appointed Chairman. In 1957 the company launched its ‘Sylglas’ range of DIY water and weatherproofing products in the UK, reaping benefits gained from years of experience dealing with sealing solutions. In 1960 ‘Tokstrip’ was introduced for jointing precast concrete units and rapidly became the brand leader in this market. In 1965 David Winn joined the company and was appointed Chairman in 1991, only the third Chairman since it all began in 1883. He remains Chairman today.

The success of Denso and Sylglas products, was and still is, based on effective, long-lasting, solutions to customers problems and using the latest technology the company has continued to develop novel systems such as Archco-Rigidon’, ‘SeaShield’ and ‘Steelcoat’ to satisfy their demands.
